2.9 Telephone & Data

The incoming BT phone/Fibre terminates in the cupboard. This location is the ideal position for a Broadband router as this is generally in the centre of the dwelling and the router can be positioned out of sight whilst remaining easily accessible.

There are telephone and data points at low level in the living room where Wi-Fi routers can also be connected. The incoming cabinet contains the master incoming BT socket and is located at high level in the cupboard.

All new phones are Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP). It is envisaged that residents will simply plug in their walk about phone system into the router to enable home phones within the apartment.

Your apartment is wired for broadband/internet and is ready to receive a connection from BT Openreach or a local cable company. Once you move in, you will need to arrange for the broadband/internet line to be connected or ‘made live’ with the relevant provider. When arranging for your Openreach engineer to connect the broadband line in your property, please request the fibre service called ‘fibre to the cabinet’.

When you make arrangements for Broadband and are given a date for connection, the engineer will need to gain access to the equipment contained in the hall cupboard. The engineer will also require access to the distribution point/panel for connection. Access to this area will need to be arranged in advance with the Managing Agents. If you live in Apartments 1–17 (front building), this Openreach distribution point/panel is located in the data risers on the first and second floor. If you live in Apartments 18–31 (rear building), the distribution point is located in the second floor data riser.

Please bear in mind that it can take up to 6 weeks to get a broadband connection following the initial connection of the landline.

An additional double socket has been provided for Home Office capability. This socket has been positioned in a suitable location for a desk in either in the living room or one of the bedrooms and provides an additional powerpoint to facilitate a desk/workstation. A datapoint is not provided as it is presumed that residents will utilise Wi-Fi for access to the internet.
