13.1 Fire Precautions
Smoke detectors powered from the mains electricity (but with a battery backup in case the mains electricity fails) are in all hallways and separate heat detectors are located in the kitchen/living room.
The detectors should be cleaned regularly with a vacuum cleaner to remove any dust, and the battery should be tested approximately once a year. When the battery runs out, the alarm beeps intermittently until the battery is changed.
Your front door is one of the key protection measures and it is important that you do not wedge or hold open the front door for long periods of time as this will impact on the effective operation of this mechanism and might cause it to fail when it is most needed.
